Real artists don't know where the good stuff comes from, they just show up to do their thing... Every day...

Donna working in her pottery studio
I have to admit, I am addicted to clay!
For over twenty years I have been passionate about working in clay and creating unique folk, functional and sculptural art using earthenware, porcelain or stoneware clay which is decorated
with under glazes, oxide stains and glazes and then fired to the appropriate temperature in an electric kiln. I begin each decorative piece with a general idea of what I wish to create and am
often amazed at how the clay is transformed from an inanimate object to something that radiates life.
I am mostly self taught, however, prior to moving to the Blue Ridge Mountains, I studied clay sculpture at Old Dominion University and production pottery at Tidewater Community College. I love experimenting with different techniques and continue to participate in clay workshops, presented by nationally known clay artists, to enhance my work. My sculptures have been exhibited in several galleries and in the monthly themed gallery at Shenandoah Valley Art Center.
